Joe........I made a call to Sinclair's office today basically to see if I needed to purchase a hunting license to simply photograph herps. Sinclair is out of the office at a conference until Friday. A female officer did not believe that a license would be necessary, but you could expect to be stopped and questioned about your activity. I would like to get a written confirmation from the big guy. She did tell me that they are well aware of the consternation this new law has caused in the herping community.
I've always thought this new law was a bit odd, as it targets a specific group of hunters(formerly license buyers I suppose......lol) that are pursuing their activity on public land. Now does this mean that all restrictions as to bag limits and protected species are off the the table if you pursue your pastime on private property? Can TPW have it both ways? You can bet other hunting interests are making a note of this. I see this as a slippery slope that TPW is heading down. They seem to have made this a property rights issue. This property rights issue may be a strategy worth pursuing! Shoot me an e-mail when you have a chance.
