Looks like a hatchling of one of the native gopher tortoises.
Where was it found?

The inquiry came from someone at the North Mountain Visitor's Center in Phoenix, AZ. My first assumption was Desert Tort but I wasnt for certain. There are a ton of Tort breeders there so I didnt want to just take a wild guess and assume it was Desert Tort. But that is what it looked like to me.

Naja,

I used to live right next to North Mountain reserve and would encounter wild adult Gopherus agassizii. It always caught me by suprise since that area is surrounded by housing.

You would be surprised where I have picked up Gopher Torts on removal calls back when I lived in Phx. The Tort cant be released back since its now been in captivity, it will most likely end up at Phx Herp Society or Adobe Mtn Preserve. I guess someone picked it up and took it into the visitor's center there.
