Saving lives...

maxrr Jun 24, 2007 03:47 PM

from imminent "death by sanctuary!" So last night was my first as a criminal. It felt horrible thinking that one of my favorite childhood pastimes is against the law. What BULL!!!! Anyways, before heading out, I thought of all the things that I should leave behind and I couldn't get myself to go without my hook...and I'm glad I didn't. I only saw three snakes on the road, all venomous. All would have been squashed by cars coming up behind me had I not used my now "illegal" hook to remove them from their "sanctuary." I could have been ticketed for that!? UNBELIEVABLE!!! We've got to get this changed!

The report:

AOR Blacktail (I love the Blacktails from Pecos County)
AOR Atrox
AOR Massasauga

Sorry about the crappy blacktail pic...I was in a hurry; didn't want to get a ticket for saving Texas wildlife!

Buy a walking cane. Wouldn't it accomplish the same result?

.... Dark and Sneaky side dont you?

I like that idea though

I could see it now the officer siezed the walking cane as evidence or hunting from a ROW.... Would that make them look bad?

carrying a hook in your vehicle? After all, if herp collecting is still legal on private land, then obviously transporting hooks, bags, and even, yes, live herps, in your vehicle must be legal as well, right?

Let's not put even more restrictions on ourselves than they're already trying to place on us! My hook and bags stay in the usual place, a tote in the back of tmy truck cab.

Brad , you are exactly right there is nothing illegal about mearly having tongs, hooks or bags in your vehicle, if it were they would haft to ticket everyone running around with a rifle or shotgun in the gun rack of their pickup for poaching also. Clark

So last night was my first as a criminal. It felt horrible thinking that one of my favorite childhood pastimes is against the law.

Actually, if you have been roadhunting in Texas since childhood, you have been violating the law for many years. It wasn't until the last few years that roadhunting for herps was considered legal. Many herpers were ticketed for doing so in VV and Brewster counties.

We seem to have forgotten those scofflaw days, back when we roadhunted knowing we were deliberately violating the law but weren't likely to get ticketed for it unless we were violating other laws or were an ass to LE.
