advice suggestions needed......

raisnok Jun 24, 2007 10:43 PM

on may 30 i traded a snake for a boa..... noticed the boas has a kink.
she also was having a problem shedding. and then i find out she has a respiratory infection...................

she also seems to be dehydrated.

we got through the shed. now working through the ri.

now the kink has me concerned because i only see limited movement of her body past the kink.

i am posting a few pics so you can see the kink and give me any suggestions to what i should do.

the whole sad part of this is i feel like the snake was abused , from what i gathered she had been in a few different homes.
and even through all of this she has the sweetest temperment.

get that boa to a vet, get it totally checked out... and get the snake you traded for it back, even if you have to buy it... the person you dealt with doesn't look too good from where i'm standing.

i'm glad that boa now has someone who cares about it to take care of it... good luck.

i have taken her to a vet here, 3 actually where i am none of them are really reptile knowledgable, at the present time i am working on getting her an appt in raleigh nc.

as for the other other snake i traded, i called the people and smiply asked "she has a kink, do you know if she was born with it or if she has had an accident?" click the phone hung up, now they wont answer my calls nor return them. when we did the tradei had to meet them at a local pet shop, as they said their house was hard to find.

Call again and say you have cash and want to buy your own snake back. Bet you get more than a hang up. If that doesn't work get a female to call. My worst worry would be the care of your former snake, those owners are horrible owners and I'd hate to see them hurt your snake, even abuse your snake. If it's a valuable snake make a police report, you have a phone number and they can track the address from the phone number. Just like buying a car, you have at least one day to back out, by law.

Ask the pet store too, tell them what happened, maybe they know this person. They might even have invoices with names on it to help you or help in some other way. in some other way, since you met at thier store they might help, even know these people have done this before?

I'd call again, And again. Offer cash. Don't talk about the screwd up snake just try to get yours back. That way you can gain info on this person, even a liscense plate number will give you their address at least in Calif.

I have been ripped off quite a few times now, I stopped counting the money I lost and started getting smart. If I deal with someome I ask their whole name. If someone isn't willing to give you their whole name, even show you thier DL then walk away. Write down their plates and everything about them. If you can get a pic of them with the snake all the better.

Online I check their reputations in the BOI and I ask people who have dealt with them if possible. In the beginning I looked for a bargain, now I look for fair and honest sellers who have a good reputations. All those bargain snakes cost a lot of money and heartache. Now I buy from my friends and those tried and true sellers. Unfortunately two rock solid sellers are leaving us Bryan Brown and John Lokken, man I love doing business with these two guys. I hate to see them go.

This might be a live and learn experience I am sorry to say. I hope she recovers and lives a long happy life with you, and that you get your other snake back unharmed too. Time is of the essense though, you know that persons temps are too low, and they are a snake idiot.

Also scan the papers, and look on bullitin boards, any place you could sell a snake. That ass couldn't sell the one you too, but I bet he tries to sell yours. I think this is about money, this guy has no love for snakes.

Take lorts of pictures of the snake and it's injuries in case you have to prove abuse. Also call the ASPCA and tell them you have a rescuse taht desperately needs a reptile vet and can they point you the right way. Keep your temps up an extra degree or two overall in the cage.

Best of luck
