Varanus tristis keepers.

jmugleston Jun 25, 2007 01:26 AM

Just curious how many people out there are trying to breed V. tristis tristis. I have a small group with only one female that has been laying eggs every few months. Only recently have my males attained a size that I felt safe putting them with the female. So far things are looking promising so hopefully eggs will follow. We'll see. Anyway if you are working with this species I'm wondering what are the ratios you have. Three that I purchased last year all look male leaving me with a 3.1 group. Not the best situation, but a start.

I want to breed Tristis but I only have a male and if you get your eggs hatching I want some of the pups! I bought 4 juvis several years ago and all 4 grew up to be males. A guy I know across town (Portland) right now has a female with a male or two. He origionally had a group 4 or 5 and only 1 ended up female.

Best of luck to you. Someone needs to get these going again.

I'm hoping I will have at least some eggs soon. My one female has been laying eggs every few months while she has been housed alone. Now that there are a couple males in the cage, I notice both courtship and breeding, so we'll see what happens.
