What does a boa birth SMELL like?

liquid-leaf Jun 25, 2007 05:32 AM

I've heard many people say that once you smell the scent of a boa birth, you never forget it and will always know when you're walking into a house where a new litter has been born.

So while I've been checking my snake room, hoping to find a litter, I've been sniffing my way all the way down the hall to the room, hoping I smell something 'different'.

Can anyone try to describe the way boa birth fluid smells?

Eat about 6 hard boiled eggs and you can run your own simulator

Awww MAN! I hate eggs, but if it smells like my husband after he gobbles devilled eggs at parties... pew. I guess if my house smells like sulfur-farts then...

Hee hee. I should have known that "distinctive" meant "stinky".

I'll give you a bit of a different angle... take a raw egg or two, mash them in your hands in the sink, then try to wash all that down the drain... the protein is hard to rid of... that smell that remains... there ya go... enjoy!

I had three friends over for our last birthing... they were all covering their noses and almost gagging, while I had a big smile on my face and hands full.. like, WHAT smell?!? lol

It'll be a nice surprise.. lol

Be well!

PS - Oh, and after washing that cage a few times, it will STILL be there! LOL

but once you have experienced it you will always remember it. This is not because it is a bad smell; it isn't, there are far worse smells associated with owning boas. It is because there is so much associated with it in terms of experiencing your first litter and getting that smell on your hands as you wash the babies. The cruel hoax is when you smell that smell and see a litter of sluggs. I hope you get to experience the smell and the positive experience that can come with it.

Excellent descriptions, though my husband didn't seem too happy when I told him, though he thinks it's hilarious when he manufactures similar odors.. heh.

Hopefully I'll get to experience that eggy smell on my own very very soon.
