black milks?

derekdehaas Jun 25, 2007 12:10 PM

i been wanting a pair of '06 or '07 black milks. i have learned some things about them and their cooler way of life. so my question is when i do get a pair could i still have them in tubs in rack system with heat? or could i get myself a smaller rack say from nsreptiles rack that holds 3 tubs and use it as a "black milks's condo" with no heat tape? any of you who keep/breed black milks...how do you keep them? thanks and sorry for a long post.

All my black milks and andean are in a seperate rack with absolutely no heat and they are all eating machine and normally active...

I tried keeping them in racks with my hondos and some would regurge and most were always trying to get out of the tub...

I keep my blacks in the bottom of a rack of Freedom Breeders with no heat. The room is usually 70-75° in the summer, but they don't seem to have any trouble or seem stressed. In the spring and winter the room temps are 65-70° and they still eat like pigs.

i guess that settle for me to know. now what about cooling for breeding? do i cool them as i do with my other snakes in lower 50's?

derekdehaas Jun 25, 2007 06:10 PM

also what temp for incubating black milks eggs?

nategodin Jun 25, 2007 09:03 PM

No cooling necessary... incubate the eggs at 80-82 degrees for about 80 days.

80 days? thats something different. since they don't need to cool, do they still get to be fed and breed? thanks.

The male may go off feed during the breeding season. I just introduce them after the female's first springtime shed. They make it pretty apparent when they're willing to breed. I'm expecting my third clutch any day now.
