Rattle Snake Round-Ups

Camby Jun 25, 2007 12:30 PM

I am not a gray band guy and this is not the right forum I know, but you alterna guys seem the most passionate and probably knowledgeable...

That said, will the new laws affect the Ratle Snake round ups? The post below made me wonder that question. If you guys can't collect them for your purpose, then how can they?

... That wonderous thing called selecive enforcment that TP&W has been so good at the last few years.

My understanding, and it is not first hand.. is that the rattlesnakes are usually taken in one of two methods.

1 - gas the den and drive em out
or
2 - pick them up on the road as you find them

And yes they will be in violation of the new law, but I doubt that it will be a problem for them if is it is not enforced.

The majority of the snakes in a roundup are driven from there dens. Some I'm sure are collected on the roads, but here in Texas the roundups are in Feb. and March. Snakes are hard to find if not impossible that time of year, unless u have access to a den site. There are many nice warm days in Texas during the winter but not enough to supply the "killers" with the numbers they need just picking them up off the road. It would sure be nice to give some of those guys tickets for that, they would have no clue they are in violation of any laws.

Unfortunately this will have little impact on the roundups. I have a friend who's sister is married to one of the lead guys for Sweetwater. He said they were aware of the new law and didn't really care. They get less than 1% from roads. It comes from private land owners mainly.
