Hatchling question and pic.

DNReptiles Jun 25, 2007 07:54 PM

When do you try to sex you hatchlings? Right out of the egg? After their 1st shed? After they eat a few meals? Here is a pic of one of my pastels that just shed. I'm pretty sure its a girl and a keeper at that!

I sexed mine after they ate a couple times for me, around the same time I started handling them a bit. I didn't want to stress mine out (first babies and all ) before I could get them to eat, which worked out, since they didn't eat for a couple weeks after their first shed anyway. Also, I don't know how to pop reliably so I probed mine, if that makes a difference.

Pretty baby!

I waited until mine had shed and ate a couple of meals. I also probed mine since I just can't seem to get the popping down accurately...LOL.

I "pop" mine right out of the egg:

* Clean them up
* "Pop" them
* Put them in their new enclosure

We also pop them right out of the egg then give them their ID number and set them up individualy in racks. At times when space is hard to come by and the incubator is backed up i have had them shed in the incubator before being set up and then they are popped when they get their ID number.

I do the exact same thing. When I run out of room, they go to the nursery
