Pippies with a surprise...

PtDnsr Jun 25, 2007 09:49 PM

Right. So our first clutch is hatching as I speak. This is from Sunny (sunglow het anery) and Big Bob (blizzard) and only gave me 6 good eggs. I was expecting all amels het charcoal poss het anery. So imagine my surprise as I looked at these two noses when I checked on them today.

So it's either one of three situations:

1) Sunny retained sperm from last year's breeding (to a sunglow motley het anery) and somehow this sperm survived (with a second clutch fertility of almost nil)

2) Big Bob is het anery and my odds so far have been really good

3) Big Bob is actually homo anery somehow.

Any thoughts on what might be going on would be appreciated. It's a nice surprise whatever it is. I only have six eggs so I'll keep everyone posted when those noses poke out. Talk about being surprised about two snow noses! (Although I guess they could be blizzard noses...which would present 4 - Sunny is also het charcoal). Ack!

Yeah...it was pointed out to me that my guy is really a snow and not a blizzard but I honestly can't see it. I know the only way to prove that is to test breed next year too. I doubt the sunglow is het charcoal - I bred her with a sunglow motley male last year (hets unknown) and came up with snows which proved them both to be het anery - what are the odds that they would both be het charcoal? I'll hopefully get pics of any others pipping today and put them up. Thanks for the input!

Do you have any pictures of your blizzard?

Yeppers - I have one from the ACR. It's not the best but it'll have to do until I can get more later. I got him out to scrutinize his coloring earlier - he's almost pure white with just a hint of yellow pattern on him. Right now the most logical explanation is that he's a snow since three more babies have stuck their heads out bringing my total to 4 snows and 1 amel. Go figure. Guess I get more test breeding next year. Anyone know the odds of him being homo amel, charcoal and anery (or have any adult pics of a snake like that)?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but your amels are dangerously pale. I would put them down to prevent any further trama they might suffer. On the other hand if they were snows then you could always send them my way Looks like the odds were in your favor.
