11 for 9

nydon Jun 26, 2007 08:19 AM

just to waste some time. Don answered my "twins" question below and i figured i would update quick and post some pics.

11 babies from 9 eggs.

the first pic is the father of the clutch (or at least his color and pattern). I bought him as a christmas corn a few years back and had posted a pic of him on this forum and was told it is just a normal corn. Anyway, i bred him to an amel and got 4 amel and 7 "normals" although they look nothing like any of my other normals but i am not good with the whole morph thing anyway and simply buy, keep and breed the colors and patterns i like regardless of what they are called and sell them pretty much the same way.

I thought they were anery at first but as you can see in the 2nd pic, they are not anery.

the 3rd pic shows one alongside one of my other normals from different parents. It shows the color difference much better.

Today i had another clutch hatch from an anery female that was fathered by the same "christmas corn" male. I got norms and amels thus far. I will add on a pic of one of those norms also because it's color is very nice and a bit different than my other norms.

Overall, i am very pleased with the babies that male is throwing for me and can't wait to see what his next clutch throws.

Thanks, Don

Hi Don. Nice to see you doing well with your corns. How long did they take to hatch, were the twins eggs, any bigger than the eggs, with single snakes in them ?
I've got a clutch of 16, it's my first time breeding corns, day 48 I can hardly wait to see what I get.

hey guy, been a while. I stopped by asian ratsnake forum a bit ago but have been so busy i have not been back. Corns are in full swing and kings and milks will start next week so i am staying busy for sure. I have gone out a few afternoons but no elaphe yet. I did find a Gloydius (about 11 pm on my patio while checking my light posts for stag beetles). I believe it is an ussuriensis and has very nice color/pattern.

Anyway, all of the eggs were more elongated and larger than normal. Babies were all on the large side.

good luck with your corns, i have been breeding herps my whole life and i still get excited with every baby. the first one is most cool. send me some pics.

thanks,
don

Might be some lavender in there?

You are right.. not anery. I'm thinking it's just a light colored normal (ie one that will have light brown/tan ground color instead of orange). Hard to tell. Some colors (like orange) take a while and several sheds to develop out.

That other photo in the 2nd post at the moment looks like a crimson to me, but you can see faint spots in the off-white ground color where it looks like orange will develop in later.

thanks, i just really suck at name calling. I am not color blind but for some reason i just don't have the ability to see what other people see i guess. Obviously things like motleys and stripes are no problem and when i see a lavender or caramel adult i can look at it and say, yep, thats what it is, but to look at a baby and visualize what it will look like as an adult is most difficult for me. I guess i am just old school and do not spend enough time studying on the internet all of the different color morphs (mainly cus i hate computers and would rather spend the time in the herp building). Also most of the really good web sites that have pics of the various morphs only post pics of the adults and not of the babies which would be a great help to me. Anyway, i will keep a few of the babies that tickle my fancy and see what they grow up to look like. Thanks, for your input,

Don

Your x-mas corn looks like an aztec okeetee. Nice pattern!
Two years ago had 2 for 1.

nydon Jun 26, 2007 06:37 PM

now see, okeetee is probably the very last thing that i would ever compare the male to. I have a dozen okeetee out there, none of which (to me anyway) look anything like that male. That is why i guess i need to stay away from putting labels on my snakes and just keep selling them as normals. I will leave the morph inventing/labeling to others more suited for it. Regardless of what they are, i very much like all the babies that male has thrown thus far and look forward to seeing some of his other babies. I just checked the clutch and the amel that came out during the night looks very much like a creamsicle. Below is one of the amels he threw from the first clutch (from him and an amel female).
