Tiger Salamander help

herpin1579 Aug 17, 2003 07:39 PM

I have collected a few tiger sals this year, mature adults and was wondering about breeding them. I have read previous posts that have stated no one has succesfully bred them naturaly. It all seems to all depend on the hibernation part. Do they hibernate under water all winter? Could i put them in a tank filled with water in my garage and monitor the water to make sure it doesnt freeze over? Any ideas on breeding this species?

Read as much as you can about their conditions in the wild and try to imitate that. Easier said than done. I don't know much, but I do know that they hibernate under ground, not in water. Then during a spring rain they migrate to their breeding pond. Good luck!

Adult tiger sals can't breath under water. put soil or wood chips on the floor and put a tupperware tub in the corner with water in it. get a jam jar lid and put it in the tank for a food place. feed them mealworms, superworms, maggots and baby crickets. Dont fill the whole tank with water they will drown.
Put a place for it to hide rocks and plants.
