Yikes- too many crickets in the tank..

mdd Jun 27, 2007 09:16 AM

Will this be a problem? I went to tap a few in last night and about 20 tumbled out for some reason. They're all over the place. Should I just place cricket food in there..or is there some way I can safely trap them to return them to their"cricket house" as we call it. I don't want to freak out our new leo who after almsot two weeks is starting to get nice and comfortable in there and is finally eating and doesn't hiss when we touch him now.

thanks

You can just catch them with your hand and put them back into the cricket tank, or I use to hold an empty toilet paper roll over the cricket till it starts to climb up the side. This is a bit time consuming, but works if you don't want to catch them with your hands.I would take some out so your gecko doesn't stress out. Hope this helps!

Good post! Another thing with stress is the crickets will start to nibble on the gecko causing harm to it.

hmmm although i myself have never witnessed it, and havent fed my gecko crickets long enough to notice them nibbling at my leo, as soon as one touches my leo he kick's and flick's until it's gone, so it's never been a problem with mine. if you still have a problem (forgot to look when this was posted) i used to put a small pile of lettuce and chopped veggie's on a small dish over night. as soon as it was put in there the crickets were eating it, and kept them busy and away from my leo. i also just squish and remove the crickets if it looks like theres too many in there. a waste of money i know, but mine eats very little as it is =( it hasnt changed since the day i got him, apart from his colours...

hisses when you touch him? lol groucy gecko.

Although at first I fed Crickets to my leo(Ninja, I got Ninjete when i started Mealies), Crickets make too much noise and my leo had to play Hide and Seek in order to get his breakfast. So I switched.

If I was going to feed crickets again, I would get that cricket house, atleast it could keep them in a place you know, and the leos know where they are.

P.S. Keep them in a place where you cant hear them, they like singing at night. Cricket Idol...

about an hour and a half to trap them in toilet paper roles and under a coconut house my 6 and 3 year old insisted we have for the leo. As soon as there were only a few in the tank, the little guy( named Killer!...lol--he's such a little squirt still) came out of hiding. Poor thing..What are the chances 3 dozen crickets will tumble out of the tube on one little tap?

Don't ever say I don't love my kids to put myself thru that!
