Has anyone ever used Ultratherm heat pads? Any good reports on them? Just curious to see what people think of them. Thanks for the help.

I currently am using 6 ultratherm heat pads under Herpcages plastic cages for Kenyan Sand Boas. They have been in use for about two years and I am very happy with them. I have them hooked up to a Big Apple proportional thermostat and they have been problem free. Hope this helps.
Rob
Yes, it certainly does. Does that thermostat work pretty well too? I was thinking about investing in a grounded Helix, but wasn't sure if the investment is worth it. I plan on expanding my collection, and was thinking about starting with a good quality thermostat.

I really like the Big Apple thermostat for its ease of use. I would prefer that it be grounded but am not sure how much more I would be willing to pay for that (I have no idea how much the grounded Helix is). I actually have 2 Big Apple thermostats and am very pleased with them both. I have also used a helix in the past and it was fine, too. I probably have not cleared things up any but those are my thoughts. Good luck.
Rob
I have several of the Helix DBS 1000's. None have given me any trouble at all. I've heard others have blown fuses but have not heard of any in runaway mode (stuck in full power on). IMO they are really good T-stats.
If you think you'd eventually need multiple t-stats, I've bought several Herpstat Pro's, LOVE EM, can't say enough good things about them. For the cost of two Helix units (with night drops) you can get a Herpstat Pro with FOUR seperate channels each with it's own LONGER probe. I think the Herpsatat probes are 12 feet while the Helix probes are 4 feet. AND, the Herpstat Pro has built in night drop. Lastly, the Herpstat Pro is fully programable in 1/10 degree increments, adjustable up and down. Helix is 1 degree increments up only, so if you want to lower the temps, you have to go all the way around the range.

ditto on the herpstat.i have a HS 2 on my two incubators and they hold temps withih 1/10 of a degree.another feature is a hi-low alarm.
when you look at quality, features and price it's the best deal around.almost forgot to mention that they run higher wattage (HS 2 700 watts per probe) than other brands so if you have many racks you can buy less stats and still get the job done.have fun! TWH
