Why they cannot ban bug hunting

lbenton Jun 28, 2007 07:44 AM

1 - To define any take of inverts as hunting would mean that anybody who treats their house or yard with pesticides would need a permit or licence from TP&W
2 - You would not be able to treat within so many feet of your street (ROW easement) under any circumstances
3 - They will no longer be able to spray for mosquitoes in the ditches and there will be a nice little west nile outbrake to lay at TP&Ws feet (unless they sanction violation of their regulations with selective enforcement)
4 - As far as they are taking this it would be next to impossible for an everyday person not to violate these regulations in day to day activities
5 - The harder they push these types of issues the more we get ahold of them when judgement day comes in the new session. They are simply documenting a prejudice against managing a resource.

I would not get too excited about this until it "happens". When they issue the first warning or citation under this pretens we can look into some action. Until then it is just talk

Great points. It is rather amusing to watch these politicians and LE literally steal the rope that they will eventually hang themselves with.

I applaud the work that Joe is doing and I appreciate the fact that he is trying to be diplomatic with Hildebran's people, but we have to keep in mind that Hildebran sucker punched us. He hit us with a baseball bat after we thought we had come to an agreement with him and were walking away from the fight.

Hildebran ultimately needs to know that we can afford a very large baseball bat to hit back with.

If I am pulled over, I am going to tell them that I am searching for shiny rocks. I am looking forward to them banning rock collecting.

People seem to forget that you do not have to say anything. It is up the officer to observe an offence before issuing a citation. I do not think it is necessary or prudent to mislead any law enforcement... Either a law can be enforced or it can not, no reason to work so hard at this??

Also, I think that HH was given information to act on and that is the reason behind the attachment to HB 12. We are in the process of making sure the information that HH and others receive is true and accurate so that our natural resources can be properly and reasonably managed.

The deep cause of much of this is that the flow of information regarding herps is sometimes missing or just not accurate or understood. For that reason we need to work in a nice productive manner to make sure that all our politicians are up to speed on what we feel is relevant to our ability to herp in Texas with a sustainable take of that natural resource.
