Ty, While I certainly belive this is what is going on with the Paradigm Boas...I do not think the Prodigy falls into that catagorgy at all...

The prodigy seems to me like a Hypo type.. animal....reduced pigment is what stands out to me...but there is a major difference in the Paradigms...

The Paradigms are a combp of the Sharp gene and the Boa woman Hypo on the same Loci.

Both are visually expressed...but yet both will be recessive if not paired up.

While the conventional wisdom seems to be that both the Sharp and the Sharon Moore traits are located at the same locus, that is, as of yet, unproven. It is possible that they are at two separate loci and the Paradigm is the expression of these two different mutations. That does not seem very likely at this point but it still is not known for sure. Hopefully we will know a more definitive answer sometime soon.

Hello Jeff,
While I have thought that exact same thing could be possible....It is very clear..... to me at least, that this is a combo on the same Locus...The breeding has now been done at least a few times and results have been consistant....
If it had been a combo of 2 different Locus...having everything fall into place several or more breedings...that would seem unlikely to me.

The Corn snake world is very very good for us to study...I think the Boa world can gain much from the work they have already done!

Take care,

There has not been one breeding of a Paradigm to an animal that is not carrying either the Sharp or Sharon Moore mutations. That is the only way to know for sure. The first litter of Paradigm Boas came from a Sharon Moore Caramel female that was bred by a Sharp Albino male. Every other Paradigm produced since then has been from a Paradigm male bred to a Sharp Albino, or a het or a double het for Sharp Sunglow. So the definitive breeding has not been done yet successfully.

While the conclusion may be logical, and there certainly is precedent for it, and I too think it probably is on the same locus, until that breeding is done, it is impossible to know how it works exactly. It would be so cool if a Paradigm if it was NOT on the same locus. We would have Jungle Paradigms, Motley Paradigms and everything else under the sun Paradigms in no time. That would be really cool but it probably won't work that way. Believe me, I am anxiously waiting to hear from Bigg Mike when he gets that first litter for a Paradigm X Non-Compatible animal...

I feel like the paradigm will prove itself to be epistatic regarding the two genes involved; the sharon moore hypo, and the sharp strain albino. Epistasis can involve two genes which share the same loci, are tightly linked, and produce an intermediate phenotype altogether. More or less, a scientific way to state the obvious, but mike's further breeding trials may throw us a curve ball altogether. Trey Schneller
