I was just wondering what you all think of the collareds, well I guess everyone here loves them since it is a collared Lizard forum...
it's just that they live wild around here and I've always thought they are so beautiful and all around neat lizards. But I've heard that they are very hard to tame and they bite and really don't make very good pets. Is this just the wild ones? Are captive bred ones tamer? I'm just curious, thanks!

I have some wild ones that tamed very EZ and have had some that wouldn't eat or take to captivity, for the most part they will tame in time, first you need to treat them for parisites and give them some time to acclumate to a cage, have the right lighting and heating, after about 30 days or so you can start to handle them( a little at a time to start) and go from there, and follow the care in the link.

Good luck, have fun and show pictures

Nice to have you here. It's a bit slow right now, school out and people vacationing I suppose. Cecil pretty much summed it up.

I have just about all wc's except for what I have bred myself, and kept. They can be very difficult (especially males) to acclimate at times, and must be handfed until they get going. Some will starve to death rather than accept captivity, very SAD !
Some take to captivity better than others. BUT,,,,, everyone I have that has acclimated has become a wonderful pet with plenty of handling and attention. Takes time, and patience.

If you are interested in a lizard as a pet, than a collared is an awesome choice. They are not only BEAUTIFUL, but active and bouncy and just a pleasure to watch. They can become so friendly if worked with . And YES, we sure do love them here.

And remember you can always start with a captive bred youngster that would be hand tamed already!

Hope ya stick around, enjoy the forum

thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
I already explored your website PHEve, it's really neat, I love all the pictures. Sadly I'm not going to get a Collared any time soon, but sometime when I have the extra room, I have a bearded Dragon right now, along with a few other creatures, and his cage takes up quite a bit of the limited space in my room. If you don't mind my asking how much do you and other breeders sell them for? I live in Oregon, and though they are wild here, I have never seen one in a pet store.

Thanks again!

Which part of Oregon? I'm in Eugene, but grew up in Eastern Oregon. When I was a kid, one of my cousins came home with a pair of (WC) lizards that they kept for a while. I didn't know then, but from what I remember of them, they were certainly collareds. They were gorgeous - and much larger than my little Texan. Of course, I was a lot smaller then, too....

Wow, didn't think anyone would be so close to me. lol,now I have to correct myself, Collareds don't live near me, but they live on the other side of the mountains in the hotter parts of Oregon. I live in Noti. It takes about 30 or so I think to get to Eugene from here.

well, I know there's an upcomming event in medford, but my parents wont let me go because it's a really long drive, however I'm hoping that I can get them to take me to the one in Portland.(still a ways, but not as far) It's supposed to be really big, but it's not until November. The only expos that I know of are the West Coast Captive Breeders ones. If you know of any others in the area I would love to hear about them!
