Newbie with a dilemma

panther_87k Jun 28, 2007 02:57 PM

Last year I completed an animal care course at college, ready for my career, and part of the course was with exotics. This is where I first met a pink tongued skink, well four of them actually. I absolutely loved them, I did almost all of my assignments on them and was always the one looking after them.
Since then I have wanted a skink and did set my heart on a pink tongue however, the only ones I have managed to find in the uk are more expensive than expected and I cannot afford one.
Next I thought about a blue tongue but they are twice the size and a bit big for me to begin with.
However, I have now found a uk based site www.exotic-pets.co.uk that breed and sell a few different types of skinks. What I would like to know is are any of them the same as pink tongues, what I mean is do any of them eat the same things and live in the same type of habitat. If so I already know how to look after them, if not I will need to find out how to look after them.
The skinks I am possibly interested in are:
Asian sun skink (Mabuya Macularia)
Olive tree skink (Dasia Olivacea)
Rainbow skink (Mabuya Margaritifer)
True fire skink (Lygosoma Fernandi)

Any help would be gratefully received
Regards Kirsty x

Have you tried Google?
I have "googled" everyone of those species and there is info out there. There is info on most of these in the Reptiles Magazine too (i.e. tree skinks - issue Sept 2003).

We have lots of skink species (blue tongues; maybuya sp.; sand skinks; tree skinks). We haven't gotten pink tongues yet as they are pricey here in the USA too.

Good luck!

You could also look for an Eastern Bluey... much smaller but harder to find than Northerns.

Mine has maxed out at 16-17 inches.

-----
1 Eastern Blue Tongue Skink
2 Tarahumara Mountain Kingsnakes - Knoblochi
1 Thayer's Kingsnake - Thayeri
2 Golden Greek Tortoises
1 Pyxie Frog - 14 years old
