I am planning on putting a webcam in a vivarium with a Hog-Island Boa.

This will be a low-light environment so it will have ether UV or IR LED’s, can somebody tell me if she will be able to see/sense ether UV or IR and if it will have any long term effects on her?

As for eye sensitivity, I couldn't tell you. But i was just going to add that anything worth watching would most likely happen at night, so you would be dealing with dark or near dark conditions, not just dim, but I'm sure you already knew that.

Ye, I know that's why I'm looking at webcam made for low-light/night vision.
All of which use multiple very strong UV or IR LEDs to "light up" the scene.

UV can damage the retina of the eyes, so I would not use that. And boids have sensors in their lips that pick up IR radiation. IR is the better of two poor choices, in my opinion.

Why not use a Red Light from what I understand snakes can’t see in that spectrum so to them it will be dark to your webcam it will be red but still visible.

Anybody got a better recommendation of what I can use if both UV and IR are bad?

True Gen III Starlight Cam?? Seems like an aweful lot of money though for spying on a snake.

Ye, a bit more then I wanted to pay. I was going to buy a cheap webcam and hack it to add IR or UV mode.
