I have a question. Two weeks ago I had two female box turtles start to dig there nest but a storm came through and they both stopped. It has not stopped raining for 2 weeks and the ground is soaked. My question is how long will the females go before they just dump the eggs on the ground.

Thanx Mike

Hmmmm....are you in Oklahoma or Texas?

I'm in OKC and today is the 18th consecutive day of rain we've had.

Wednesday afternoon, the sun had come out and we had an afternoon that was warm and humid.

Squirtle, one of my ornate females started digging a nest.
Around 7:30, it started raining again so I went out and put a storage tub that was destined for the trash over Squirtle and the site and she just kept on digging. The damage to the tub which had made it trash fodder actually made a nice little door so she could get out when she wanted.

It rained all night and the next morning she was sitting in the doorway and the nest appears to be completed and filled up.

I've left the tub there to keep the nest site from getting too soaked.

I don't know how patient they are, but what you might do is put some sort of tub over the sites where they were trying to nest.
Prop them up with a brick or something so they can get underneath them and maybe they will go and try to nest. If nothing else it would keep those areas from getting too soggy until there is a break in the weather.
