ATTN: TPWD Update Pending

Eby Jun 29, 2007 10:34 AM

Robert McDonald called me this morning. He wanted us to know that they are reviewing their position on the "Bug Ban". No specifics on what that might mean just yet.

He advised me they will be working on a press release to clarify their position on the bug issue and possibly HB12 in general. Hopefully, the press release will be available today. It sounds to me like they are making an honest effort to make sense of this bad law and apply it in a reasonable manner to deal with egregious and blatant violations.

In the meantime, try not to antagonize anyone at TPWD and use common sense in the field (or roadside). The best way to earn a citation or derail any progress that we MAY be making will be to lie or be belligerent.

I would hope that it would be linked here as soon as it is available...

In fact I would welcome any of the TP&W officials that browse this board to post the link themselves as it is available.

I would see that as a good will gesture that they are trying to help us understand and comply with new regulations.

"He advised me they will be working on a press release to clarify their position on the bug issue "

What position? Wildlife is defined as "any terrestrial vertebrate" and as such inverts have NO legal standing. Sounds as if they are throwing us a bone in hopes we will ignore the meat.
