This week's getting better (no babies)

rainbowsrus Jun 29, 2007 11:13 AM

Just agreed on a deal with Will Bird of Extraordinary Ectotherms for a bunch of his top babies. Thanks to Tim for turning me on to Will's fabulous babies this year. Last year I still got a few but after they were somewhat picked over. This year I did the early picking and have many of his top babies.

So, which ones do you think I got? I'll give you a hint - 3.7

You got 0.1 #1073, by the way what commands the higher price? I assume it’s the cooler and pattern but some of the lower costs snakes look better then the higher priced ones??

rainbowsrus Jun 29, 2007 12:19 PM

LOL, that one's still on the website from last year and yeah I got her.

It's the line and colors. Plus bullseyes and outstanding crescents.

getting a new rack or what? That is a lot of new additions and I thought you were gonna have trouble holding all those holdbacks back for the room but maybe not don't keep all the nice oneslol You gonna be able to fit them in the snake room after meaning you got empty slots or are you gonna be expanding into another room when your BRB's are getting into their adult enclosures? What kind of tubs do you use for your BRB's making love together too? Sorry for the ?'s but it's been awhile
Bob

rainbowsrus Jun 29, 2007 01:24 PM

Yeah, already thought about that. Several of the Q-room residents are just about ready to join the main collection but that still won't free up enough space so I will probably build another quickie rack out of more scraps I have laying around. This one for shoebox tubs only.

Also, thinking about converting one bay of the garage into a boa room for all my big boas and bog boa cages. Then I'll be back to being able to breathe in the rooms.

I'll be holding back little to none of my production this year, so, y'all gonna have some screamers to pick from!!!!!!!

All of my breeding goes on in cages, IMO not good for gravid females to be in tubs, don't want to disturb them everytime (daily) I pull the tub to check for cleaning and even worse as approaching due date, checking several times a day.

My BRB breeding cages:

Those loook great, every one of them is beautiful to say the least. I just bought one of Will's 06' males and just love it so I can only imagine how great those will turn out for you.

If you don't mind me asking (feel free to not answer this) what was the agreement you and Will made for you to get those? Did you trade him for some of your upcoming litters or just buy them or what? If you dont want to tell me prices that's understandable. Just curious. Thanks

Ike Lightner

rainbowsrus Jun 29, 2007 04:32 PM

Thanks, Will does produce some amazing animals.

I found out about them early and contacted him right away. We have had dealings in the past, I already have some of his 2006 babies. I let him know I wanted to get a group including the best of the best. They need to shed and get pix taken first so he put me at the top of his "list" Then the word got out and he was inundated with calls and emails. He closed off the list but still honored my request so once they were ready to go up on the website, he emailed me and we worked out a deal. I'm buying them with no trades involved and he's giving me a volume discount. Of course to protect his privacy I won't disclose the amount of the discount.

Great looking snakes!!
Looking at what you just got from him and what you already have got me thinking.

Are snakes your business? I know that you sell them, but do you hold down a "normal" job during the week and have the website to sell your hobby? Or are the snakes the main source of income for you? Not trying to be nosey, just curious. Please fell free to tell me it's none of my business.

Good question, I do have a normal 9-5 job. Currently snakes are a hobby business. I'd love to bring it up to a full time job. Actually that is my long term goal. Many of my breeder animals are not of age, YET. Within the next few years That will change and I should be able to produce enough to turn a profit. So far I'm in the red but don't really care as I'm in the build the collection mode.

Part of my motto and business plan is open book. I may choose to take it offline from the forum and of course there are questions I wouldn't answer. But for the most part, just ask me.
