JenHarrison Jun 29, 2007 01:55 PM

What would be a reasonable price for a 1500g proven breeder female spider?

Depending on color and pattern 2000.00- 2800.00. Just my opinion .David of DS Reptile Rescue

I think its tough to put price on her.

If someone needs cash they may sell her for less, but I think you would have to look at the value of any potentialc lutch she could have?

You stipulated that she is provon.

If she threw 6 good eggs the year before, I think the seller would have to take the value of a potential clutch of 6 and factor it in?

Thats what gets me nervous when I see adult het females of whatever morph being sold for far less than the clutch they should be able to bear...something doesnt add up in my mind.

Is the female a deflated 1500 grams after laying? Is she pigging out now, eating all the rats she can, after laying? Does she look good color and pattern wise? Has she had mites, any resp. problems? It is a simple question you asked Jen, but there really is no GOOD, simple answer. It is all going to depend on the individual animal, and what male someone has that they NEED a Spider female adult to go with.

I ask because someone local listed their entire collection, including an adult female spider. He didn't list prices, just asked for offers, and I don't want to offer too much (screwing myself) or too little (insulting him).

Jen, it really all depends on the actual female...is she fat and happy, a great eater, does she look good. Find a comparible female on the classifieds, even if it is not a Spider, but say a Pastel female or Pin female, and offer a bit over what the female Pastel is, and a bit less than maybe a Pin....or just ask what he wants for it.

Looking at it as a buyer - it would depend.

Did she lay this season - if so when and what was her prelay weight? With just a couple months until cooling starts I'm looking to see if she be able to get back up to a healthy weight (without power feeding) for breeding or will she have to sit out the season. If she doesn't look good for the upcoming season I'd rather invest the $1K for a subadult virgin that would just as likely go next season. I'm also looking at age, breeding history, pattern, wobble factor and over all health and feeding.

All things considered as a buyer of a 1500 gram female spider I would likely spend:

$2000-$2200 on a virgin
$1800-$2000 on a proven breeder that dropped early in the year or 05/06 season
$1600-$1800 on a proven breeder that dropped late in the year 06/07 season

As a seller I would price them slightly higher and negotiate a win win situation.
