Sick Box Turtle...Advice

Camby Jun 29, 2007 04:25 PM

This girl is housed out doors with 4 other eastern box turtles. She eats fruits, vegetables, bugs and worms and has plenty of clean water. You can see in the photo that she still has a good appetite, but she has these huge lumps around her neck. Any idea what they are and if they are treatable? She is wc but has been in captivity for 2 years now.

Thanks in advance

Hi there,
Looks to be an abscess caused by an infection of the middle ear.

Best of luck!

Hello,
I agree with RMB, it's a middle ear infection. They (bumps) need to be surgically removed. Had it done on my Ornate and she was eating and "alive" only a day after the surgery. Jeff

Ditto looks like ear infection. They recover so well when they are treated for this the right way.
Are you giving her reptile multi-vitamins on any of that food once or twice a week?
A lot of times this problem begins with a lack of proper vitamins in the diet.
