Actually my grandmother moved to Puerto Rico from spain when I was born. I used to visit her and handle them in the wild. They make a very loud chirp that has had them hated in Hawaii where tourists complain about the sound . But personally I would not mind owning one if I could find it of course.

The coquis are all over Florida, too.. and I can't even imagine how their sound would EVER bother ANYONE. Compared to our native frogs, they're quite quiet and the chirp is pretty pleasant.

I know they're available *somewhere* but I don't know where. Perhaps you could find someone who sells them from Puerto Rico or neighboring islands? Personally, I plan to catch some soon

I own a beachhouse over there but uhm. Exporting even one is a big no no. The US fish and wildlife deparment really wont care much its the conservationists over there that have a system that is sort of like a state fish and wildlife org.

Ah, ok.. then nix that idea. I figured since it was a territory it wouldn't be a big deal, but sometimes these things surprise you!

I'm going to Hawaii to take all their coquis. Some people are killing them and if they find them a nuisance, I'll be more than happy to bring them home :D

The attempt to eradicate coqui from Hawaii is due to the fact that they are not native, they have been introduced, they are invasive, they are outcompeting native herps of Hawaii, and creating an unnatural ecological niche for those islands. So it is very sweet of you to want to "save the coqui" but I think from an ecological standpoint it is more important to "save the natives"

Dude, it's a joke. I like coquis, I don't like to see them being killed for stupid reasons. There are good reasons and there are stupid reasons for killing them in Hawaii, but every article I've read about this includes residents (non-biologist, ecologist, etc.) complaining about one thing and one thing alone--their noise.

They're not even loud! Plus, with all the other introduced animals in Hawaii I think they have bigger problems than coquis. I'd like to see them trapped and shipped somewhere else or even sold instead of being killed, but my resentment is towards peoples' attitudes about them much more than the actual frogs.
