Either he retained a piece of skin after a shed or he is recovering from a rub. One of my albino black rats currently has something very similar but only on the large central scale of his head.

I agree. If the situation is from a rub or retained skin, it should start to look more normal after a few sheds. I had a similar thing happen this year with a Honduran - but once the old skin was removed and the snake had a few sheds, it looked good.

maybe a mild burn...though the heat source would have to be inside the cage, or sitting above the cage (or on the side of the cage). But most likely a retained shed or recovering nose rub, but hey, might as well throw in all possibilities.
