Large tortoise "vivarium" / cage mate.

lothar Aug 17, 2003 11:28 PM

I'm planning on setting up a large >15" sq. ft tortoise "vivarium" for my CBB Hermann and was wondering if anyone has ever attempted cohabitating their tortoise with anyother (CB & disease-free) herp? I was thinking something along the lines of a nocturnal, small, and terrestrial gecko that could tolerate similar temperautres (e.g. leopard gecko, Texas banded gecko, etc). My Tort is still fairly small (5" and there would be enough room for both species.

I understand that it's generally not a good idea, but I doubt the tortoise would care about the gecko(s) and visa versa.

Just a thought/question.

Mixing species often creates stress - which can lead to disease. Its better to stick to one species per enclosure. If you want to add another animal add another herman's or just enjoy the one you have.

My 2 cents
