Another major let down.

peteralbrian Jun 30, 2007 09:19 AM

Another let down today. Just found 25 yolks. 2 years ago i found 35 yolks. Currently i only have this pair. Had sold most of my reptiles when i moved house a year ago. She is a bog girl over 9 and he is about 7 feet but much thinner. after last time i kept on a "diet" cos i was told that it could have been due to him being fat. also i bred them ealier this year beacuse and i saw very vigourous mating but .... last time there was a dead baby with the yolks so i guess he is not sterile. they were cycled and he was cooled off. i cant figure out what to do. at least she is fine and happily gulping down her 2nd ( and last for now) medium rabbit right now.

Sorry to hear that.

I haven't bred boas successfully yet either (still waiting for my BCC female to drop if she took) - but from what I've read by multiple large breeders, a 'cooling' period isn't necessary with boas, and that some feel cooling boas before breeding may result in more slugs. Maybe this could be the issue? I know cooling was a common practice for many people for a long time.

Must be very disappointing, but each individual boa is different, just like some people have problems having children, while others have them easily.
