leopard frogs, how much land?

Danyal Jun 30, 2007 10:09 AM

i'm filling my 180g gallon aquarium(6'x2'x2') up with about 8" of water and want to put a couple of islands in by putting eggcrate on top of pvc legs and putting peatmoss and gravel on top of that as well as some live plants. i'm wondering how much land area i should have? in one corner i was thinking about doing an area roughly 2sq feet and then a couple of smaller islands maybe 1/2sq foot and 1sq foot in size.

i would say a little less than one third of the enclosure.my leopard dident use the land much, but there was one that for some reason felt safer on land so i made a hide and othe stuff and feed him on land the others were in the water mostly.

I'm new to leopard frogs, so I can't offer any expert advice. For the small tank I have I went with 50% land, 50% water. As the other person in this thread mentioned, they seem to spend more time in the water, so I'll probably change the mix some and add a little more water. These are brand new hatchlings though, so I'll just have to watch them to see if their behavior changes as they get bigger.
