wow.. that would have to be a really long answer..

There are some great inexpensive books available right here in the kingsnake classifieds that will fully explain and offer proven tips on how to breed corns..

there are plenty of walk throughs on breeding corn snakes available on many care sheets. The cornsnake manual has a good step by step guide and definitely is a very good book to have for general corn snake care and breeding.

It is also not 100% necessary to cool your animals at all, though fertility would be lower than if both male and female are properly cooled. I bred my two corn snakes without cooling (mostly because I can't get them cooled below 73F because that is my base room temperature). I just put the male in with the female in February and let him do his job. I received a nice big clutch with unfortunately, mostly infertile eggs (may be due to me not leaving the male in long enough, I could have kept him in till I stopped seeing copulation).

Here are some sites on how to breed corn snakes.

(the above site also has great genetic info as well, just check the links on the left menu)

This is what I did with Cal Kings. Corns should be same.

1) Make sure you know the sexes of the snakes
2) Sometime in November, stop feeding. I did it when I saw my local Sceloporus disapear.
3) Keep them warm for a couple weeks. Do not handle again 'til spring. This lets them digest last meal.
4) Shut off their heat so temp drops to 60s. Block any heating vents into the snake room.
5) A week later - crack the window in snake room so temp drops to 50s at night
6) About twice a week, change their water. About once a week, listen for respiratory issues but don't bother them unless you hear respiration issues.
7) Mid feb - start field herping. Once you start to see Sceloporus out in abundance, wake 'em up. Initially apply heat to 70F and a few days later normal temp.
8) Feed them as much as they want - the males will not eat much after first feeding. Females need mass for succesful clutches.
9) When female sheds, put her shed in with a male and feed her a very large meal. The male may go crazy at her shed skin. One of mine even crawled inside it.
10) Next day - put on some Barry Manilow, dim the lights, open a bottle of wine - and put the recently shed female in with the male.
11) Repeat after every feeding post her first shed until she rejects the male or looks obviously gravid.

Young males make take several tries before they figure out what to do. One of mine took three tries - but once he figured it out, additional matings - he got right to business.

That last line is kinda funny. Only because I have a male that has mated a couple times each year, this being his second, and he is still clumsy. Half the time he tries mating backwards, then it takes him a bit to realize he is at th wrong end. He does that at least once a year. lol.
But, even novices get it right eventually. (assuming the snakes are of the right sex)
