john_reynolds Jun 30, 2007 03:03 PM

I have used Black Knight and had good results, but cant find it anymore. Has anyone used anything that worked well? Does anyone know where to get Black Knight? Thanks

The way I understand it, the guy from Provent-a-Mite (PAM) sued Black Knight (BK), because B.K. began marketing their product as a reptile mite killer, however, BK had originally tested and licensed said product for a different use? It sounds like symantics, but I guess the FDA or whoever licenses things like this take this very seriously.

I know why PAM sued, to protect their market share, but it sucks for us consumers because PAM is real expensive $20-25 a can. It works rezally well however.

Also, I have heard you can use this product called NIX sold at Wal-Mart as a lice treatment.

I wonder why the guy from PAM, Bob Pound never tried to sue Wal-Mart? .....Yeah Right!!

Nix is used to treat head lice in children nad works very well.Mix about a tablespoon per 16 ozs. of water and spray snakes and cage. Also kills the mite,s eggs.Terry

Got to wal mart and get Equate brand bedding spray It is made for head lice. Works real good on mites. I use it around the racks to kill off any spiders(the kind with legs) and also in the rat barn.

As far as I know, they don't manufacture Black Knight anymore. I have a friend that has a whole case of it and he doesn't want to get rid of it because he'll never get it again if he parts with it. Evan of Ideal Reptiles if you're out their you know about this I am sure.
I personally use Provent-a-mite and haven't had any problems. I have the normal size can and that has lasted me a very long time and I have a lot of it left because I don't use it a whole lot. It'll run you about $20 a can in a store...I think. I hope that helped you.

Equate Bedding Spray at Walmart. It has the same ingrentants as Provent a Mite. Permethrin.
If you could compare the ingredient labels to the two, they woul read the same.
The only difference is cost. Equate Bedding spray is $3.95 a can, and Provent a Mite is like $20 plus.
I've used it for over five years, with no harm coming to any reptile I've used it on. I spray it directly onto the animal, the cage, the rack, to kill any mite, eggs or other crawlers that may be around.
I have recommended it to many people, who have gotten the same results. A wonderful product!!!

It is true. I have been still getting it. They had to rewrite the lable but it has never went away its been here all along. One thing is you can not resell it. It is only legal for resale in two states and I do not live in one of them or I would have been makeing a killing LOL. So I have been getting it for personal use only. Just got a case in about a week ago. Paul

or has it been reinvented with different ingredients or different concentrations of active ingredients?

provent them by being proactive.

Get the Hot Shot No Pest Strip and lay them around the snake room.

Been using them FOREVER and have NEVER had one single trouble with mites.
