Back to back shed...?...

dmac Jun 30, 2007 06:19 PM

My 3 year old male bull shed on 6-11-07. Haven't seen him in 3 days (hide) which is really unusual for him. Checked on him today and his eyes are totally frosted over. To my knowledge he did not hurt himself- he's been in this same cage for two years. Is this a breeding thing? For the past month he has been really "on his bicycle" and I just figured that was a spring breeding urge, but I've never seen this.

Gorgeous snake.

It could be eye caps.

I've had a king that did a similar thing once - though not quite that fast. It shed, ate once, and started shed cycle again. Not related to breeding. Not sure why it did it.

There are several things that can stimulate a snake to shed other than growth, I'm not familiar with all of them. I know females typically do before they lay, and often before they are willing to mate. A particularly large meal can induce it as well.

I always check for both eyes and tip of tail on a shed.

My black rat snake is doing that right now -- in blue just three weeks after a previous shed. He did that last summer also, and i have noted that his quick sheds coincide with a lot of rain - maybe a humidity thing. He seems otherwise fine, feeding regularly, etc. I think some snakes just do that i their more active seasons.

I once caught a rubber boa that shed twice within two or three weeks. As long as the snake acts normal, and is active, I would say that it is just something that occasionally happens.

Nice looking snake BTW.
