The right side is the dominant one. She's a cutie!
That's a pretty unique-looking snake you have there. Does he show any desire to eat on his own or have you still been force-feeding him? I know a lot of the time when those types of deformities happen, the animal is often seemingly mentally disabled and not able to feed itself and is not very active (which almost inevitably results in a shortened lifespan). Does he show pretty normal behavior?
Good luck with him.
(Also, I wonder what shedding is going to be like with this guy, if he'll need assistance...)

I guess I should stick with "it" or "they" maybe? (Some 2 headed snakes are hermaphrodites from what I understand). And yes, it does appear to have a lack of coordination, probably mental retardation to some extent. But it is just as strong as the other snakes, and quite active at times, but makes erratic movements and seems confused. As far as the feeding: I placed a f/t cricket frog right in front of it, it started flicking it's tongues (mainly the right one) rapidly then pushed the frog around a little with it's head(s), then stated waving it's head back and forth like Stevie Wonder and crawling around in circles. I then placed a f/t newborn anole (scented with the frog) in it's mouth (right side) and it then stated eagerly swallowing on it's own. I've also fed it a pinkie head and a couple gecko tails. It seems very healthy and robust physically.

The f/t cb anole didn't stand a chance...
I also call her Lefty Lucy. Not the brightest bulb but enthusiastic nonetheless.
Man that is cool!
Can you tell if it can see from the middle eye???
Best,
Vinny

“There is a grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that whilst this planet has gone on cycling according to the fixed laws of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.” -C. Darwin, 1859
I'm nearly certain it can see through the center eye(s) they are connected but have 2 pupils. It holds it's head up sometimes when I open it's container and seems to be looking right at me with the center eye. None of my other snakes hold their head up just like that.
Hello,
I believe your hognose is the first instance of a living 3-eyed snake. Best of luck taking care of it. I have had a dicephalic milksnake for 3 years and it is healthy. Your snake is very bizarre. It looks like Heterodon nasicus. Is that correct?
