Black and dark gray Blair's

Aaron Jul 01, 2007 12:27 AM

This is a captive born 2001 female West Langtry. Her parents were wild caught from 6 miles west(father) and 8 miles west(mother). She was bred back to her wild caught father to produce this clutch which was just laid today.

Here is her father caught in 1999.

And her mother caught in 1996.

Nice, How was your trip to West Texas? Heard you had some success. Did you get up to Ft. Davis? Clark

Coralsnake
Devil's River Blackheaded Snake
Chirping Frog (these were out in force on 277 like I have never seen before)

Oh yeah, also saw a second alterna but it was DOR. Fresh hit, around midnight at Sanderson.

That's an impressive list of animals. Where did you find the coral snake? I've seen several here in Arizona but out of the hundreds of nights in Texas, have never seen one there. Nice finds! --Henry W.

My understading is that a few were seen on 277 this June. I believe that's where Aaron saw his. I found one there back in 91 or 92 as well.

We found three coral snakes in a few days up on Highway 277...one on a cut and two on the road.....both on the road were unfortunately hit in the new sanctuary......gmerker

I guess this year's weather must be perfect for finding them.

gmerker Jul 02, 2007 08:51 PM

Yes it was....prior to this year, I have only found two corals on Highway 277...it was wet and wild this year.....the corals were found in three consecutive nights......they are a cool animal, but as DB has pointed out elsewhere, I have yet to catch a milk snake in West Texas....seeing a coral snake gets the heart pumping.....at least hoping for a triangulum! lol....gmerker

May you find many.......................................... corals in the future Mr. Merker. LOL

The coral was seen on Hwy. 277 about a mile north of the border checkpoint. Have found several(about 6 or 7) in the last 10 years about half of them in the above area and half of them near the picnic area about 5 miles north of Loma Alta. Both of those areas are relatively flat and grassy and the corals seem to move when it's wetter than normal.

It's been a great year for corals-here's my second one. Last Friday night, western Kendall county. Rotten pic-totally uncooperative and I was caught without tongs....

My sons and I found a coral AOR near the picnic area on 277 on June 9th this year. Thanks to Gerry and Geoffrey Merker for helping me bag it for later pics but they all came out lousy (Texas corals are psycho's compared to our Arizonan's).
