I got an email from the Man (niloticus authority)
Saying theirs enough peoples obtaining nil’s already, that I should not post about them the way I do, its not correct for me to say these nil’s have good temperament, supposedly keepers will believe what I say and obtain more nil’s. Well I am sorry mister I am to important to post on public forums, but I share what I like, and no I don’t misled others into false allegations, I enjoy my new nil’s and theirs nothing more to it, I don’t care what species they are, and I sure don’t care if you think I am fooling the peoples on this forum. The truth is I have 2.2 baby nil’s that feeds out of my hands, and I enjoy this from such monitors. I don’t post about them to entice keepers to go and get one, I do it for them to enjoy a new perspective on a specie most guys like you have no understanding of.
Guess you know by now I will not return your email, but hey you can post hear for all to see, surly many will side with you about these monitors.

Kind regards

Who would not enjoy a friendly nil?

Niles have thier place & if properly socialized while young can be handled. but many people don't take the time to do this if they get bit a few times. They'll learn you are no threat & most can be taught not to readily fear bite. Keep up the good work. I don't have any monitor right now but used to keep them & enjoyed all species I kept & will keep in the future.

I guess everyone has their own opinions...You told me when I posted my tame CB Croc Monitor wait until it gets older Yes you were right. Not tame any more, but not a biter just very shy. I don't keep my monitors so I can have something to spoon with on the couch, and the temperment has nothing to do with the enjoyment that comes from them.
I'm very interested to hear updates on your Niles. Didn't you get your Crocs to 7 foot in 1 year? I think I remeber reading that, correct me if I'm wrong. I would love to see you grow these lil guys to 6 foot in a year
I have sent you more than 1 email in the past, and no you didn't reply. And no I 'm not "mister I am to important to post on public forums", but like to read what you have to say, and wanted to touch base. But I guess you don't play that game.
Very, Very nice little monitors you have!!!

MikeT Jul 02, 2007 08:29 AM

Nice scrub. They are one of my favorite snakes. My tame baby crocs grew up to be tame big babies.

JPsShadow Jul 01, 2007 04:40 PM

I see why you won't return his or hers emails. But what gives? Why haven't you returned mine?

jobi Jul 01, 2007 07:49 PM

Are you guys answering to all your emails?
Many of my emails never get answered, I don’t take this personal, should I?
I mean if it was really important, id say so or use the phone.
Emails are impersonal to start with, you can’t base a relationship on them.
So pleas don’t take them personal.

All of you are right, every monitors have there appeal, these have grown on me more then others. I don’t see any wrong in posting about them?
If you have a different opinion pleas say so.

Cheers

I think it is great that you are posting about things that you like! It shows that you love your monitors in the way that you post and the info that you offer. You see this and other forums are places where a lot of people like to learn, like me. Who cares what anyone thinks if you like them!
On another note, I talked to a zoo keeper here in the states that have bred and hatched Crocs on several occasions. As far as he knew they were one of the few places that bred their Crocs strictly indoors with no outdoor exposure. You have bred and hatched Crocs right? Did yours have access to outdoor caging at any when they bred for you?

lizardheadmike Jul 01, 2007 10:25 PM

Hello Jobi,
Absolutely nothing wrong with Niles or any of the other monitors for that matter. They are all great fun. Did you give the locality of those- Kenya? Anyways, thanks, best to you- Mike

jobi Jul 01, 2007 10:47 PM

Yes I think they are from Kenya, but where shipped out of Tanzania, so theirs no way of being 100% sure.
They have never tried to bite or tail whip, unusual for the specie don’t you think?

lizardheadmike Jul 08, 2007 04:34 PM

Unusual and wonderful... Where ever their locale they are beautiful. Best to you- Mike

This thread needs a jump start. It's got some potential but seems to be fizzlin' out.

OK, at first I thought jobi was talkin' about me in his first post when he said "I got an email from the Man (niloticus authority)" but then I realized I hadn't e-mailed him. Plus, the "mister I am too important to post on public forums" title didn't fit me, either. You mean there are two of us (niloticus authority)?

Alright, now let's dig in to some real discussion on this subject.

How many times have most of us expressed concern for the exploitation of niles? Concerns for their health & well-being in the hands of inexperienced keepers, like me. Concerns for how they've basically become dispensable creatures, many never living to see their first birthday. Concerns about the fact that these creatures are naturally anything BUT a beginner's monitor.

Looking at it from this viewpoint, just how far off is "Mr. too important to post on public forums"? I think most of us would have to agree with his "...there's enough people obtaining nil’s already..." statement. And this one, too, "...keepers will believe what I say and obtain more nil’s."

Honestly? He's got a valid point. Whoa! Whoa! Put down those flamethrowers & hear me out first. Ha! Ha!

jobi's been a member here for a few days or so, most of us know where he's coming from, where he stands on nile's in the hands of newbies ("newbie" is not a derogatory word). We know his level of intelligence (or the lack thereof) (Ha! Sorry, sport, couldn't resist that one. You know I'm just pickin' at ya.).

I can understand jobi's excitement with these niles he's been tellin' us about & I don't/can't blame him for wanting to share it. I'm glad he has, its quite encouraging.

I think jobi has made it pretty clear that their dispostion is uncommon, outside the norm of this species, at least, at such an early stage in their life.

I've got several more points I could make but I'll save them for another post, if they're needed. I want to stop right here and ask you; "Where is the dividing line?" When should we not post something positive and/or informing if it could also create a negative backlash?

To be, or not to be: that is the question.

To thine ownself be true.

(What the heck's a hillbilly doin' quotin' Shakespeare?)

Have fun!

HIllBilly is Jobi and backards too. I mean versa vicesa. Both claim to be something, but keep switching forth and back. Next thing you know, Jobi will have a HillBilly accent and Hillbilly will be speaking froncy. Whoops if I could spell, I could speak french too. I am so easy to confuse!

I love accents, I do a lot of them. Its great fun. Unfortunately, I cannot spell worth beans( freeholelys) So my Cheech and chong will not go over big here. Or my Chockney(rough english) Or my bollywood, "Please for kind and humanitarian reasons, do the needful and oblige, send me Fifty species of varanids from your area". Think of New Delhi when you read that. See I told you it would not work.

Oh well, I love it in any case.

The truth is, its not about species, its about size. Very few people have the physical ability, to provide proper sized cages for adult large monitors. And after all is said and done, thats the end of that story. Its only the numbers that are backwards, there should be more small monitors available in numbers, and less large monitors. And the prices should reflect that, the large ones SHOULD be expensive to purchase and the small ones, of course less expensive, but still costly enough for people to respect the animals lives.

About nasty species, There are nasty and calm of all species. Its kinda more about their history then their species. But some, a very tiny bit is about species. Also, much as to do with the keeper. As we see here the, I am new to wild animals, so I want to tame a wolverine on my first attempt. Is a little out of place. hahahahahahahahahahahaha Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm not a good choice for a first attempt.

Theres the focal point, beginers should take little steps, like start with something small. You know, if it bites the bullbeans out of you, you will only have to go to the bathroom and wash it off and put a bandaid on it. Not to the emergency room and have your limbs reassembled.

You do know these big things can cause harm. I have realized that, so I have stopped hatching Lacies and stopped breeding Crocs. The reason is, I am getting older(and slower) which does not mean, I have to get rid of those big nasties. It only means, they need to get older and slower at the same rate as me! hahahahahahahahahahaha. I can see it now, me chasing George(old Lacie) at a brisk pace of one yard/meter an hour. Please picture this, but don't forget to include me in my pink backless jumpsuit and bunny ears. Cheers

Pink backless jumpsuit and bunny ears??!?!!!!! OK, now I'm nervous. And I thought you was one of the good guys. ROTFLMAO!!!

Man, oh man, have we gotta talk. Find yourself some shade, quick. At least its an improvement over the pink thong.

The point I had in mind about niles not being good for beginners was based solely on the majority of experiences I've read/heard about, where juvie-niles (love the pun) weren't so accomdating to humans and their large size as adults.

Back to "Where's the dividing line," heh, I've about got myself all confused about who I am, what I stand for, etc... (thanks, jobi!) Ha!

I'll have to mull this one over a bit more.

> > > "I am new to wild animals, so I want to tame a wolverine on my first attempt..." "...not a good choice for a first attempt."

I'll have to agree with you on that one. Makes a good choice for a LAST attempt, though. Ha! Ha! That's quite a varmint!

Catch ya'll later!
