At the Daytona show the other day I purchased a female Bell albino from Reptile Industries. She was with two or three other female Bell's her age and she was the most active one, and the one with the pattern I liked best. She's pretty young, but I can't tell you exactly (I'll try to post a photo tomorrow).
Anyway, she was kind of skinny and didn't fare the four 1/2 hour trip home too well. She's very calm, but seems pretty weak. Yesterday she was doing pretty bad!
When she'd walk around, she would only walk very slowly. She made a strong effort to do so and her front legs would shake when she'd move with them. She also looks kind of skinny. None of her bones protrude or anything, but her tail isn't very wide and her body is pretty skinny, especially compared to my other gecko, who seems to be in tip-top shape (I got the other in late May at the F.I.R.E. show in Orlando) and very strong.
Also, this gecko didn't want to eat, which I understood from the stress, but she doesn't seem so stressed today and is acting better, and I think she ate a single small cricket just a few minutes ago. So I'm worried about her. I'm going to get a fecal done on her, but I'm thinking this is something else for some reason...
Anyway, I read something about a common problem with breeders is that the animals can lack iodine. I find this more likely than her lacking calcium, so I gave her a tiny bit of Jump Start yesterday, and I've been feeding the crix I give all my pets very nutritious food and fish flakes and hope this will help. But can anyone tell what is wrong from what I'm describing? She's much better today than yesterday, but I think this is more than stress and am worried for her.
On top of all that, I have another problem with her. It looks as if she's recently shed and one of her front toes is partially being lost (the tip, a little past the claw). It's still there, but looks somewhat dried off. I put her in a shallow dish of warm water and the toe looks better, but it still doesn't look so great. A tiny bit of shedding skin came off, and it looks like the skin left is beyond dead, but there still may be living, unsoffucated tissue inside. From anyone's experience, do you guys think the tip of the toe will make it? Or is this a lost cause in trying to save it?
Anyway, thanks for your help and I'll post some pictures A.S.A.P. She truly is a darling, and I hope she gets better fast!
