Losing Eggs???

crazydragon Jul 01, 2007 07:34 PM

Well I checked on the eggs this evening and they are showing dents, and there is an oder. No mold anywhere, but there was a lot of moisture on the lid. Am I going to lose them, they are her first eggs.I hate to lose them!

Its possible for you to still save your eggs. You need to get a new container with fresh prepared Vermiculite or Perlite and transfer the eggs into that. Eggs may cave in due to lack of moisture and also too much moisture. The first case is easy to solve -- just do the above, the second may require more effort on your part. The smell could mean they are starting to mold. If this is the case I would gently treat each egg with Dr. Scholl's Footpowder to kill the mold and moved them into the new incubation substrate.

You need to get a digital scale if you are going to seriously try to incubate your eggs. What you want each time you incubate some eggs is to use 75 to 80 % water to the weight of the vermiculite or perlite. Good luck with your latest eggs.

thanks I'll try! Do you know where I can get perlite, what I found here has chemicals in it?
