My baby boa still won't feed.

arcanemind Jul 01, 2007 11:37 PM

He is the only one out of the litter that hasn't fed...he is 4 weeks old. I have tried over and over again leaving the fuzzie in there, and even putting them together in a small container.

He just shows absolutely no interest. Are there any other techniques i could try? And if i have to end up force-feeding the little guy, what is the best way to go about this?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi,

This is the only one not feeding?
You have the rest there? What are they feeding on?
What kind of Boa is it?
.
Generally speaking a boa that hasn't eaten at age one-month is not the best but shouldn't be a cause for alarm. If I had the snake and I was sure it was ok (has tongue and so on). My routine would be to set it up in a small cage with just enough aspen shavings for it to burrow if it wanted, a snug hide box and a small water dish.. and I'd leave it in a quiet place for about a week before trying to feed it again. Then I'd drop in a fuzzy mouse (live-preweaned-eyes-closed) just before I wentt to bed.
.
I've had a few things go for around 100 days before eating! I didn't like it! But after a couple of seasons there was no difference between the problem ones and the others. I'd try force-feeding as a last resort if it was my boa though some people report good resultts from just putting hte meal in the boa's mouth a couple of times (not pushing it down the throat).
.
Good luck.

Thanks for the post.

Out of a litter of 23, he is the only one that hasn't fed. It is a litter of normal BCI.

They are being kept separated in shoe-box size plastic containers on paper towels. I started all the other babies on live fuzzies...on their third meal i switched to f/t and they all took.

This little guy won't touch anything. I've inspected him numerous times and he seems flawless.

If i put him on aspen bedding, with a hide box and he still won't take, at what point should i try force feeding...and if i have to...what is the best way to do this.

Thanks for your advice.
