2nd clutch question

tko75 Jul 02, 2007 01:24 AM

I have a female that I thought was gravid for her 2nd clutch. She shed(pre-lay)on Friday. I fed my other snakes on Saturday, so I thought, well, will just offer her a mouse(thinking she wouldnt take it)and BAM she ate. Now Im thinking she isnt gravid, though I thought I felt eggs in her. Anyone else have females eat right up the laying? I havent yet. Thanks

If she has a good feeding response it wouldn't surprise me. You should never feed a girl after the pre lay shed. At least that is what Don tells me.... I had one girl refuse food for a month before she laid..... all snakes are different.

I figured that was a sure way to tell if she was gravid or not. I guess if she lays eggs, I wont do that again...
Thanks

I had an anery that has eaten every week since laying so I never suspected she was going to double clutch. She ate on Sunday a week ago and when I checked her water on Wednesday she had layed seven eggs under her water bowl. A couple of slugs and five that looked like they would have been good if they hadn't been layed under the water dish and dried up. There was one that looked hopefull so I put it in a tub with a few other late eggs and it appears to have rehydrated.
So, put a lay box in with her and keep your fingers crossed.
