Front leg bloated, swollen and twitching

SuperGeckoberry Jul 02, 2007 03:22 AM

I've had my gecko for about 5 years... during this time she has been healthy and happy. I was saddened because I discovered her last night with her left front leg bloated, swollen and twitching. She is not eating as much and is having a hard time walking. I'm going see a vet ASAP, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone could provide any insight as to what could be possibly be wrong with her... MBD? Calcium problem? Other? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't had any experience with something like that, but maybe she got injured in the night? Maybe a loose bug that bit her which got infected?

now I'm not fully familiar with animal's in terms of diseases and such but from a human perspective I would say that
if it's just the one leg it is probably trauma of some sort. if you could get to the vet today it would be best. sounds like she fractured it, but that may be secondary to another disease process.
hope all works out well. keep us updated, I'd like to know what happens and how she's doing.

this may not be the case because she is an adult and has been shedding for years, but i have hatchling at the moment that i noticed her 2 front legs were getting slightly swollen and inflamed. when i looked closer (really close) i could see that she had shed stuck on her entire legs! weirdest thing i have seen this season of breeding. so anyhow i couldnt get it off right away but luckily she is young and sheds alot so i waited till her next shed to assist her which was like a day or 2 later. now she is better and i hope she can shed on her own now. i think her skin is just a little strange though...anyhow just thought i would post but like i said your gecko is way older then a week or two so i doubt thats the problem. just go see a vet asap. good luck

I had a similar issue a few days ago. I took my gecko on a few hour long trip in his carrying case, get him there and found his back leg was totally flipped in the opposite position. I found a reptile vet down the street by pure luck and she said it was MBD. She also said it could be a fracture but she wasn't sure yet. He's only 5.5 inches long and 12 grams.

I thought it was odd since his crickets are gut loaded for almost 24 hours and I just started to "shake n' bake". She gave him a shot of calcium and another of vitamins A & E, said his legs should straighten themselves out and sent us on our way. He stopped eating for a few days and just got back on track yesterday, $64 later more calcium supplements.

Any how that's my experience so far. Good luck with you're little one.
