Premature hatching, several days apart?

Zeq Jul 02, 2007 02:15 PM

Hi
I'm new at breeding ball pythons and my first clutch has just begun to hatch. One hatchling peeked out his head yesterday, but now around 24 hours later, none of the other have started to peek out. He looks healthy and moves his head around but has not left his egg yet.

The other eggs haven't even dimpled yet, and I never saw this one dimple either. The eggs have only been in the incubator for 43 days, they were with the female for around three days at the most before I found them. They have been incubated at a temperature between 88-90 F (31-32.5 celsius), we've had some troubles with the incubator.

Is this hatchling premature, or should I pip the other eggs? Is it common for the hatchlings to hatch several days apart? Please help. If he is premature, is there something I should do, will he survive?

I would very much appreciate any help, I'm quite worried about the eggs and the health of the hatchlings. Thank you!

Here's a picture of the baby and the other eggs. Please help.

I would say to leave the other eggs alone, they look good. I have read on here that some will pip early, leave him alone till he comes out himself, He maybe a small one, I guess he could not wait.
Congrats on the new baby.

Leave him in the egg for at least 24hrs, then you can think about considering if he has consumed all of his yolk. He will most likely come out on his own.

The other eggs look good, I would leave them alone for now.

43 days plus 3 with the mother is really early..you sure you math is correct?

Today three more little snakes have hatched. They are all peeking out of their eggs, just one egg left.

I'm quite confused about the hatching time though, they have been in the incubator for 43 days, I've counted and recounted. We checked the females nest box every 2-3 days, so they shouldn't have been in with her for more than 2-3 days, but now we're thinking that we might have missed it for 5-6 days, but not more.

Here's a pic of the other cuties, they all seem healthy. Two of them pulled in their heads when I opened the incubator.
