I'll attempt a picture

skippy Aug 18, 2003 03:17 AM

So this is a picture of the little guy. He's not so exciting compared to the big ones you all have, but I like him.
I took it a while ago, but only managed to get it on the computer today. I'll show my cage when it's done (it's airing out now).

I took this one back when I first posted here. It doesn't look as good as the first one, but it shows the size better.

Is it possible for you to get a more current and clearer photo of him? It sure looks like there is a cross on his neck and if so he may just be A. crucigera.

I for one really enjoy the smaller ones. I find them a lot more exciting than the adults in some ways. It is so much fun watching them grow and you get to learn their personality so much better because you are one on one with them as they develop their personality traits. I also find the little ones can be pretty aggressive compared to the adults, a lot quicker to display and even may attempting a bite here and there in an attempt to intimidate and scare you away. They are just so comical! LOL

I was thinking that's probably what he is (based off of what I read on your caresheet).

I can't get very good pictures because the camera I'm using is on someone's cell phone. But this one will have to do.

Wow, looks like we have a crucigera runnin around now. Crucigera's are the smallest of the 4 acanthosaura's. I can see the 2 horns just to the side of the crest on that last photo and I can also see the outline of the dark band going across his neck. I think you are the only one currently on the forum that has an A. Crucigera! They are more rare than Capra's by far and might be getting harder to find than armata's (as 2 of us on here have a pair of armata's each). Good luck with him.

Also, what did you use to waterproof the tank? I read you are letting it air out. If you used fiberglass resin I would let it sit in direct sunlight for about 2 days before letting him back near it. Get it back into an enclosed room and wait for an hour and come back and see if you can still smell the resin before letting him run around in it. If you can, either put a heat light on it or stick it back out in the sun. Fiberglass can be annoying when you are letting it dry.

I did it the same way that you did. I think it's been airing out (and stinking up my place) for about 2 and a half days now, but now it's done. I didn't have anywhere to put it outside, so I left all my windows open and tried to stay away from home as much as possible.
