Help my gecko is sick!

SusannahJoy Jul 03, 2007 12:38 AM

At least, I think she is. I have a one year old female crested gecko who is having some problems. Lately she hasn't been too interested in eating much and has lost a lot of weight. I didnt realize how thin she'd gotten until today. Her ribs are sticking out, it's really bad. She recently shed and it didnt come completely off. When she pooped it stuck to her. I noticed the poop today and cleaned it off, and then hand fed her some baby food with calcium and vitamins mixed in. Is there anything else I can do? She's in a 20 gallon tank by herself, lots of plant cover to hide in, temp is around 75 during the day and 72 at night, and humiditiy is between 75-85%. I feed her mostly crickets that I dust once or twice a week with vitamins and calcium. And advice?

stop feeding her mostly crickets. Get the Crested Gecko Diet and mix that with baby food and gradually decrease the amount of baby food till you are feeding pure CGD. As the crested gecko diet by T-rex is a complete diet, you don't' need to add anything else, crickets, or supplements. This should get her back on track but if she continues to loose weight and have wet poops...get her to a vet, she may have internal parasites.

I have the crested diet mix, but she wont eat it. any advice on how to switch her over?

mix half and half with baby food. Decrease amount of baby food each week, till she is eating straight CGD.

Crested gecko diet also now comes in two parts, a base, and a fruit flavoring...this may work better than the all in one version of the diet. I haven't tried this two part diet yet so not sure how more attractive it is. It may be work a try though, as you can buy your geckos favorite baby food fruit flavor and mix it in with the base, and give that a try.

My crested wouldn't eat the Gecko Diet either. Someone here suggested that I use that to dust the crickets and familiarize the gecko with the scent of the Gecko Diet.

My gecko doesnt go crazy for the diet now, BUT after 2 days with out crickets he'll eat it.
