Late Monday pix......

rainbowsrus Jul 03, 2007 02:43 AM

Was feeding tonight and found Ziggy had shed so took a few pix:

I was asked in a prior thread somewhere what my photo setup aree looks like so here it is. Unretouched, heck, not even picked up The newspaper on the cage in the background is to cover up Amber (BCI Amber) she knew I was feeding and struck at oindow every time I walked by, quite often twice per pass. You can see a little tiny snake on top of the melamine cage, that's Ziggy. Also, on the ceiling you can see part of my track light. Nothing fancy....

Ziggy post second shed....

Without flash:

And I also found Amber mid shed, a few pix still in her moss hide. You can see her roled down stocking on the right, still several inches to go.

From the second I layed eyes on her. Thinking back, to date, she is the ONLY one I've taken specific
individual pix of as soon as found!! Yeah, I've taken pix of every snake I've produced or bought.
And of course taken litter pix. But like I said, she's the only one I took pix of as soon as I noticed
her. I even have pix of her in the cage with mom but honestly I had not noticed her yet.

This was the first pic I have showing Amber on 08/26/2005, not very clear but you can see Savannah
around the water bowl and many of her babies crawling around. Amber is the one on the right side down
on the newspaper.

Pic #2 shows Amber much clearer, you can really see her lack of crescents

A cropped closeup of just her from pic 2

When I was putting the individual babies into their own tubs, I saw her and thought "wow, what do we
have here?" I had to take a couple of pics right away. You can see she still has her umbilical. Of
course I gave her card number 1 from her litter - SA-PO-01

i was browsing cage and design forum out of boredom and seen your post with a crap load of pics and see where you were building a rack setup what did you use to get out the leftovers after you cut the square out for the heat tape? and what did you lay ontop of it it looks like white styrofoam

I made a jig out of melamine scraps to define the outline of the recessed area. It sets on top of and clamps onto the shelf. I use a router with a pattern following strait cut bit.

This first pic has the jig on a shelf and have finished routing the outlines. Including a couple of channels, one on each side for the wires to be routed to the back.

Same shelf but I had removed the jig.

Reset the router and removed the waste inside the outlines. Did that freehand.

These next two pix show the shelves installed (I painted the recessed areas white) and the heat tape panels going in.

I REALLY like these racks, tubs are big enough to hanle small adult boas and any size BRB. And I get 10 vertical tubs in a 21 x 41 inch footprint

I'm thinking about walling off a room in my garage for the BCI's and making a total of three more of these racks.

ahh paint the ridges in the wood kinda make it loook like styro i was like would he have styro under heat tape? lol i think i really like those designs. that got me thinking about takin that makin it smaller but yet have muiltiple ones next to each other then have my baby rack on the side of it so its like a L shape build a frame round everything out of 2X4 or something and have one of the or even two of the 8' L cages from boaphile plastics ontop of them for my big snakes when i get them. thats if you can picture all of what i am talking about i know sounds confusing but looks good in my head and as far as amber OMG she has turned out so nice even as a baby she was a looker. what are your plans for her for breeding in the future whos the lucky mate?

rainbowsrus Jul 03, 2007 02:35 PM

I figured that was what you saw.

I see your thoughts....several wide instead of so tall. At 20 inchesa wide,m that'd be 5 tubs wide underneath a 8' boaphile.

I don't have one specific mate planned for Amber, right now I'm thinking Phoenix or Hook, maybe Diablo.

I'm keeping my options flexible for pairing. Whe n I have an outstanding looking litter, I'll repeat that pairing and see if oit happens again. If so, then I might lock in that pairing. Mostly though I'll be mixing things around.

8' L boaphile need the corner cage dont have room for flat out 8' lol the one thing i REALLY need is well make it three things more of those awesome clamps put ol fashion C clamos to shame same as you use probly diff company make but whatever a table saw and a ROUTER need a router bad. tho i must say for only having a circular saw and a drill i think i did pretty good for my first homemade incubator that wasnt a cooler incubator

one small gap isnt bad there is window/door seal behind thats the white you see and the clamps on the side you cant see PULL the dorr tight there is one heck of a tight fit black nobs are for plexi cut to size of each slot so when you open the big front door you can shoose what one you want open so all your heat dont come flyin out at once. im changing a few things up next year this was just a test run year works perfect just need to tweek a few things

rainbowsrus Jul 03, 2007 04:14 PM

One thought on the 8' "L" boaphile, 18" tall would be fine but the 11" tall one, how would you ever reach the corner to really clean without dismantling the cage. I know my arms are not that long and I can's squeeze through the opening on the 11" high cage.

I have clamps everywhere, pipe clamps that can be made any length you want by joining pipes together. Various size bar clamps that are great for up to three feet or so and only a few "C" clamps as they are worthless for carcase construction. Way back when I was breeding rats for sale. Had only one customer, a pet store but they worked with me and had a standing order they would always take and we adjusted it from time to time. The proffits from that went into my shop tools. I have lots of really nice tools from that, top notch delta unisaw, a planer, a shaper table (heavy duty industrial router table) several normal routers and all kinds of smaller power tools and jigs/bits etc. U've gotten fairly good at workinmg with wood. Even made our new kitchen cabinets frlom scratch, all the doors and drawerds and carcases. All top notch, attention paid to every detail.

Looks like a nice incubator, the gap in the door is hardly noticable and as long as it works well for the job intended, then it's a success!!
