The good and the bad

Not every clutch works.

Clutch number one yesterday was from my ghost. She was bred to her dad (a very clean anery het hypo). She gave me six large, nice looking eggs. So, I'd expect some nice clean ghosts from this clutch and anerys het for hypo. This is her first year breeding.

Clutch number two was a major disappointment. My snow possible het hypo slugged out with seven large infertile eggs. She was bred to the same anery het hypo male in the hopes of getting ghosts het for albino. I'll feed her heavy and try her again later this summer.

This was my first bad clutch of thr season. Three more hondos in their egg boxes now and should lay within the next week or so. A couple stragglers behind them and my black milks are a mystery this year. I think one of my black milk females is in pre-egg lay shed - otherwise they have just been eating and breeding machines but are more than a month behind last year's laying schedule. Oh well.

Pictured below are the two females mentioned above.

Just curious, was the snow female a first time breeder for you? I had an anery honduran that was definitely large enough to breed at around 800 grams and she was feeding VERY heavily too - she slugged out on me with about 8 eggs. I have heard that feeding too much can be bad.

Better luck with the next try! I'm going to give my anery a try again - she is possible het hypo and I'm pairing her with a tangerine albino which is possible het hypo and anery. Crossing my fingers for a hypo!

Yep. This was her first year breeding. She wasn't heavy at all -at least not too much. I'm chalking it up to simply being her first clutch. Mabe her second clutch will be better or she may not throw good eggs until next year. Of course, the male I bred to her was breeding other females as well so maybe she just got him on an off night?
