Nice snakes come from this locale.
Can you guess or know what it is?

Plus 1! I'm betting that photo was taken right from that bronze Ft. Lancaster plaque on 290. I've parked there myself.

My last trip we had lunch there on the way out..

Ft Lancaster Hill...

As you guys guessed. North hill off 290 near Ft. Lancaster. I'll have to make it harder next time. Thanks for playing.

Found 2 ugly males my first night there. I thought I had found a badass spot, that isn't hunted much. Turns out many other people have tried this place with not so great results. Do you have pictures of any "nice" snakes from there?

krhodes Jul 04, 2007 07:52 AM

I've seen 2 nice animals collected here(Dark blairs w/wide white and dark red) and the leps are beautiful. Were the ones you got dark phase w/ black throughout the red?

Must have been crowded with Beckwith and Hollister hunting the same cut =^D Sorry, couldn't pass that one up.

Now that was funny! That cracks me up. Good job, Bill.

Doug Beckwith Jul 04, 2007 05:23 PM

Wow, that was hurtful. Not so much the ugly part, but the fact that you lumped me in w/ Hollister. BTW Cope, your standing invitation to drop by when it town, has just been revoked. LOL

P.S. Brad I'm glad you were so easily amused. While many things come immediately to mind and I would like to comment here, I will show some rare maturity and not do so.........at least not at this time. LOL

DUDE! You will have to get one hell of alot more creative than this to stump the alterna fans!!!! Please, try harder!!!!!

No sh*t!.......Even a Florida boy knew that one. All kidding aside, the view from that hill is one of the nicer vistas in gray-band land and quite distinctive. You Texas boys need to get your "hunting privileges" back. I'd like to have a summer home to kick back in. Ain't gonna happen if I can't kick back and have some personally caught herps to keep me company.....if only just while I'm there!

Wayne........fresh out of graybands, but how about a Bairdi that you will NEVER see better!

Eby Jul 05, 2007 04:44 PM

That thing is AWESOME !

Where did it come from?

buzzworm55 Jul 05, 2007 04:51 PM

And just when I think I've seen the best that Elaphe/Pantherophis can offer ... looks hypomelanistic to me, too.

He's no hypo........just a full metal jacket bairdi that is just a couple inches short of 6 feet. I picked him up as a hatchling back in '99 from a breeder that also had the parents up for sale. He was nabbed for a paltry 15 bucks. I should have grabbed a female at the same time. At the time, bairdi didn't fetch much money. That said, I think really nice bairdi should command a good price. The complexity of their color scheme is really amazing. I am always looking for a female that is a worthy breeder. He is supposedly of "northern Mexican stock"...........another pic

alterna63 Jul 05, 2007 11:13 PM

Well there you have it! Once again, Mexico wins out! Did it cross the border illegally??? )

Wayne

archaeo1 Jul 06, 2007 10:17 AM

That's the most amazing bairdi I've seen in Mexico or the US. Perhaps you could find a way of tracking down the rest of the litter and find a suitable mate. Thanks for posting the pic. --Henry W.

alterna63 Jul 05, 2007 11:09 PM

What's it crossed with Garrett???? It is much too pretty to be pure. Also, what's a Florida boy doing with a nice Texas animal like that???? :)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Wayne

PS. You are right, I never have seen one better! I will give you that much. I want it!

Steve G Jul 06, 2007 03:59 PM

Wayne.......the chances of you getting this bairdi added to your collection are about the same as you getting an alterna on the River Road(keep in mind that the odds change if "eagle eyes" is riding shotgun.........you then have a shot!)........heheheh!

Hate to hijack the alterna thread, but here's another pic of bairdius maximus.

maxrr Jul 06, 2007 12:45 PM

That view is great...I found two subocs there last month, around the picnic area. One was a large female and the other was this little guy...I released them both, which was hard to do
