Jungle Carpet Python not pooping

JohnnyG113 Jul 03, 2007 09:09 PM

Hello all, long time lurker first time poster...

I have 3 snakes, a Kingsnake, Milksnake and a Jungle Carpet Python. They are all great eaters but my King and Milk poop at least once a week if not more. I've had the python for about a month and unless she is hiding her poop somewhere she hasn't went yet. She has a UV light, about 80-85 degrees and I try to keep 60% humidity. Like I said she eats great but won't poop. Is this normal with pythons?

I wouldn't sweat it. It could be a number of things. Mostly how recently it ate. I don't have a jungle, but I do have antaresia. That's an Aussie python. I guess that makes me qualified to answer.

Some people will tell you to soak the snake in warm water to make it poop. Here's my take on that: If I changed your body temperature by as much as 25 degrees F in a matter of seconds you would poop too. That doesn't mean it's good for you. Besides, it might make the snake poop, but it doesn't address the underlying problem. Whatever it may be.

If it's eating and it still doesn't poop for a few more weeks I would go to a vet. Maybe keep an eye on its underside and watch for discoloration, bumps, etc.

You didn't mention the size of the snake or type of substrate you're using. It is sometimes hard to see the feces of smaller snakes that are kept on darker substrate such as mulch.
