Eggs at Day 60

FunkyRes Jul 03, 2007 11:42 PM

Here's the clutch from my Lavender Albino at Day 60.
Not pipping yet - but two of the eggs are showing some serious dentage - so it should be real soon.

I'm incubating them at 80F except in the middle of the day when a timer shuts the incubator off - some days ambient temp goes up to 82/83F (like today - when it was 102F outside) and some days it drops as low as 76F. But morning, late evening, night - they are pretty much spot on 80F.

Any day now ...

That's cool. I'm interested in seeing what color the light rings turn out to be. Maybe some will be white, others yellowish or in between those two shades. Or all the same. The light ring color may be deceptive at birth. My kings that naturally have yellowish blotches are usually white at first then change as time goes on. A lavender with white rings would be real nice if you want to select toward that. Let us know how the clutch turns out.

The white rings are only white on top.

The male is Redding, CA locale - and the kings here have bands that are bone white down the spine, but about a third of the way down the side they turn yellow and continue as yellow across the belly. Every king up here I've found since noticing that about the ones I had has been like that (granted, not very many, but a few) - so I think that is a pretty common phenotype of this locality. Some are brighter yellow on the sides than others, but not are yellow down the spine and none are white on the sides/belly. That I've seen anyway.

I've also not yet found less than 29 bands or more than 32 bands.

But I've not found very many since I started caring. Especially this year - only two this year, both 2006 neonates.

Yeah - I would get ready for babies. Interesting that those eggs are on day 60. My Eastern King eggs usually hatched starting around day 50 - and my temps were about the same or maybe a little warmer than yours. I wonder if humidity has an impact on how long they take to hatch?

I have three clutches of Eastern King eggs cooking right now - they are in the mid '70's and I assume these will take longer this year to hatch.
