HBC gravid box turtle

zanelee Jul 04, 2007 08:27 AM

About a week and a half ago, I found a female 3 toed box turtle on the side of the road. She had been hit and the back end is quite cracked. She has been eating readily and and her wounds are now healing nicely.
My question is this. We took xrays and found she has 3 eggs. What kind of conditions do I need to provide for her to safely lay them? (We do think she has a factured pelvis, and she doesn't "use" her back legs yet. She does extend them periodically.)
And when would she typically lay them? (I guess I'm really asking, at what point should I get worried?)
And- any other info I should know?
Thanks so much!
Jennifer

even though I hope to do research on boxies, I'm certainly not an expert yet. I focused on plants when I got my B.S. and when I was an M.S. student.

But I'm pretty darn sure they use their back legs to dig the hole, and I'm not sure what yours will do if she cannot dig.
