In accordance with the International Code for Zoological Nomenclature
which reads
"Recommendation 8A. Wide dissemination. Authors have a responsibility to ensure that new scientific names, nomenclatural acts, and information likely to affect nomenclature are made widely known."
I hereby announce recent publication of papers naming seven new taxa from the families Pythonidae and Elapidae.
Copies of the papers are at:

for those interested.
New snake taxa

I am curious about something you write in your python paper regarding this new "subspecies" of Chondropython;

"In the absence of good locality data, the subspecies is best separated from other C. viridis by comparative DNA analysis, which has already been successfully used to separate this subspecies."

Can you give the details of this analysis? Which parts of the DNA were analysed, how much difference did the study find, how many animals from which localities were included in the study?

refer to the court transcripts of the Queen Vs Buckley and attached documents available from the Qld Government for the full details.

Can you provide som more information about the case, like a number or the date? I tried to search the publications database at the Queensland Courts website for words like "Queen Vs Buckley", "chondropython" etc, but didn't find any matching results. I guess it isn't available online so I will have to try and obtain a paper copy. But I would prefer to be able to ask for something more precisely than just the case "Queen Vs Buckley".

Refer to Smuggled-2 for further case details (see previous posts).
Also more on the subspecies of concern including photos of the holotype will appear in a later paper, as already indicated in the paper you have referred to.
I suggest that you re-read the preamble in that paper.

I have no intention of buying your book merely to obtain a reference, but I looked at your webpage were you list "documents and other materials used to verify and confirm" what you write in Smuggled & Smuggled-2. However, none of the five courtcases at the end of the list is about the Queen Vs Buckley. Oh well, I guess I will just have to wait for your final article if you don't have the details at hand.

Hello Ray,

what up with you these days?

I just had a short look at your paper (at your website):

GENUS LEIOPYTHON HUBRECHT 1879

Leiopython albertisi (Gray 1842) (Eastern Irian Jaya)

The same mistake you've made in your 2000 paper (on your web page). As far as I know the correct assignment would be

Leiopython albertisii Peters & Doria, 1878 (and not Gray 1842) (the species L. albertisii wasn't even recognized at that time)

And by the way. I hope you didn't obmit the "i" in your upcoming paper! (I just refer to the ICZN code, article 33->33.3, 33.4).

And what's that "Eastern Irian Jaya" ?
The syntypes of Liasis albertisii that Peters & Doria described in 1878 came from West Irian Jaya (Kapoar [= Fak Fak] and Andai (near Dorei) [= Manokwari]) and Hubrecht's Leiopython gracilis Hubrecht, 1879 came from Salawati island.

Leiopython albertisi barkeri Hoser 2000 (Mussau, PNG) Leiopython albertisi bennetti Hoser 2000 (NE PNG) Leiopython hoserae Hoser 2000 (Southern New Guinea and Southern Irian Jaya)

GENUS LENHOSERUS HOSER 2000

I hope you don't feel offended again, these are just a few things I was wondering about.

take care,
Wulf
